Dirty Windows

I was doing a barre class today. I always choose the side of the room with the windows facing the highway.  It helps distract ‘me’, anyone who has done a barre class will know why “I” need that.

Before I continue with the subject of ‘Dirty Windows’, speaking of exercise, the state of awareness, the observer in us, the observer of the observer, our natural most essential nature, is very conducive to getting the most out of your fitness; barre, pilates, weight lifting, whatever it is you do that rocks your boat.

Imagine when you can’t take the pain any longer, your glute muscles are burning or your arms are aching, when you place your attention on the awareness, the space to which it is all felt, and focus all your attention on that opposed to the discomfort, there really are no limits. Awareness is simply Awareness, vast, expansive, empty of all sensations.  We are this.  We are not our Pain.

DISCLAIMER: this doesn’t mean ignore a pain that will lead to injury, get in tune with the body!  Always bring your attention to body awareness and you will be guided by its innate wisdom.

So back to the Dirty windows.  We have had alot of rain lately and living not far from a surf beach on the east with a prevailing south easterly wind and far off in the west, red dusty earth, it doesn’t take much rain and wind for windows to get dirty.

As I looked through the windows this morning from the upstairs studio to the Gold Coast Highway below, I observe the activity on the street,  the shops across the road, then I bring my attention to the window itself.  The dirt and grime, sand and dust and cobwebs creating a film or filter over the window.  That is how I saw the world this morning through this dirty filter.

So too we have internal filters to which we see the world.  Our limiting beliefs, the indoctrination that we picked up as children, untruths about ourselves and others, our misconceptions and misinterpretations, our fears and concerns, our incorrect imaginings and rememberings of the past and anxieties of the future, our hurts, the false lessons we learned, all imprinted and projected on to the world in front of us, on to the hustle and bustle of the highway below.

So can any of it be trusted?

What is real?

If we all agree on having this filter, a filter that we see each other through and the world, then surely we must all agree we can not trust any of what we ‘think’ we see, hear and touch.

This is why I am so grateful for Mooji’s teachings and pointings, and all the spiritual teachers that light up the world of darkness and ignorance; the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh, Eckharte Tolle, to name just a few.  All the Masters point to one Truth, One irrevocable fact, Awareness, that which is beyond all that is perceived by the senses.   We can count on this.
